'MYSS!' seemed to me to be ideal for this website - and this webmaster! This site is all about people who want to start their own online home-based business; what better way to start than by building YOUR OWN website, watching your traffic grow and marketing your OWN PRODUCTS.

Then, I had put the cart before the horse because I had already constructed the first version of the site, before I even bought the book. I don't know about you, but I've always been the type who needs to get started right away at something and hope it works out in the end.

WELL THIS TIME IT DIDN'T, and I ended up starting from scratch - by the 'MYSS!' book - before I finally "got it right".

Now it's 2004, so let's get right up-to-date: The runaway success that is http://www.sitesell.com is now legendary...

... AND I MISSED IT ALL!!

Over the last few years I've watched with a deep sense of frustration as the company expanded its range of products while I could hardly read or write, thanks to a stroke.

• 'Make Your Knowledge Sell!'
• 'Make Your Price Sell!'
• 'Make Your Words Sell!'

My next prospective purchase I reckoned would be 'Make Your Net Auction Sell!' because it looked like being a suitable subject for the site, and also because it might be something
I could do. As it happened, I never quite got around actually buying the book, which was just as well because now everybody can get it FREE!

Now let's have look at SiteSell's jewel in the crown: 'Site Build It!'

Having personally bought the first four titles and been 'given' the fifth one free, I feel I'm at least qualified to recommend them on BIZ-Banana.com as products of REAL quality, and very relevant to the theme of this site.

I'm also a SiteSell affiliate and, personally, I think it's difficult to recommend something wholeheartedly unless you are thoroughly familiar with any product you endorse. Until now I've never really seriously considered buying my own 'SBI!' site, given my health problems, but when you think about it, it's the next logical step and I'll keep you posted on that one very soon.

So you see 5PP members without a site may have further to go, but their choices are clearer:

• Get a website
• Don't get a website

Good question... And there is an equally good answer, but let's examine the other option first, okay?

From my own observation (and please remember this is a personal opinion) I would suggest that the best chance of success is to have your own built-from-scratch website - using MYSS! as your reference manual, naturally. If you have a unique product or talent to bring to the Web, too, well and good; you can shape the site to sell the product or showcase the talent and build in your 5PP strategies at the foundation level - but remember to remain flexible.

That means tackling the rudiments of HTML and website design. It's not brain surgery, but it does take a while to get to grips with... It's well worth the effort, though, if you are determined to work from home... on your computer... for yourself!

What you don't want to do is go out and waste hundreds of dollars/pounds/yen, or whatever, on one of those cloned, do-nothing 'businesses'. You know, the ones that get a listing on the search engines - under their vendor's long-winded brand name, with your unique ID tagged on the end like an afterthought - and just sit there scratching themselves like fleas queuing up to take bites out of your dog!

99 out of 100 web businesses couldn't sell ice cream in a heat wave, don't be one of them!

If you are really serious and want to be in that remaining, successful one percent, register your own unique domain name - at a fraction of the cost - and build it yourself.

And, the same applies... even if you DON'T join the 5PP!!

Right, let's say you're convinced, and now you have your copy of MYSS!, your Complete Idiot's Guide to HTML and you've registered your domain name - or are just about to. Now, if only there was a way to build your business until you got your site up and running...
